    The History of O-So Grape

Few vintage soda brands have a story as intriguing as O-So Grape. While most people know the brand by its familiar O-So name, its roots actually stretch back to the early 1940s under the original name So-Grape in Chicago, Illinois. In 1942, the So-Grape trademark was officially registered, and before long the young brand found itself at the center of a trademark challenge from the makers of NuGrape. Although So-Grape successfully defended its name, the company soon introduced a fresh new identity—O-So Grape—a name that would become one of the most recognizable regional soda brands of the postwar era.

The new name proved to be a perfect fit. Clever advertising slogans such as "O-So Good" and "O-So Delicious" helped the brand stand out, while independent bottlers across the country began producing O-So beverages in their own hometowns. By the late 1940s, O-So had grown from a single grape soda into a family of flavors enjoyed from coast to coast.

As the company expanded, its operations eventually centered in Peoria, Illinois, where O-So continued to grow before acquiring the well-known Bubble Up soft drink brand in the early 1950s. That purchase marked a new chapter in the company's history and helped preserve another beloved American soda for future generations.

Today, O-So Grape remains a wonderful reminder of the golden age of neighborhood bottlers and glass-bottle soft drinks. With its rich grape flavor and remarkable history, every bottle celebrates a time when hundreds of independent soda companies competed to create America's next favorite refreshment—and O-So proved to be just that: O-So Good.
